I finally got around to fixing the rear height adjuster on the driver's seat in our 97. I bought a junkyard motor/transmission first, then ended up swapping the gears only. It's quite a set up that gives a huge reduction ratio:
Metal worm gear on motor drives a plastic gear that drives a second metal worm that drives a second plastic gear (the one that broke) that drives a metal planetary gearset that drives a pinion that engages a lever to move the rear of the seat up/down.
The gear failed before I bought the car. There was no sign of wear. It may have happened during cold weather when the plastic is brittle. Did someone post that they have a mold to make new gears??
Thanks,
TonyJ
