I had a similar problem when shifting into reverse. At first it would take 5 seconds before reverse would engage, later it would engage with a big jerk.
It took me 40 minutes to repolace the springs (better change both while you're in there). I think the cost was $15 or so per spring. In addition you need two small O-rings. All you need to do is remove the battery and battery tray, take the cover off of the hycraulic control box, unbolt the hydraulic control box on to of the transmission and move it to a clean place. Take off the small side plate and remove the two springs. The two O-rings are for a small oil pipe that comes out and needs to be refit. Check the gearbox/automatic/control system page of the EPC. Spring 2 and 3 need to be replaced. The O-rings are #14.
When you place the control box back you have to make sure it engages the control finger that is coupled to the gear selector in the car. If I remember correctly you have to put in a particular gear (#1?) for it to engage easily.
Best regards, Rene
