How did you have a LPT CSE? I see you're not in the US, but I was not aware of a CSE LPT offering in 1996.
To answer your question, the '96 had two O2 sensors.
Now for your conversion, what did you do? Did you use the correct ECU? If you used an ECU from a different year, that could be the problem. I don't have access to my EPC right now, so I can't tell you what years were the same, but pretty much the rule of thumb is to stick with the MY of the car for the ECU. Transmission does not matter.
Second, did you do the little flash code thing for the CEL? It might not work in your '96, but I've known guys with '96s that it has worked in, so there's no sense in not trying.
Other than that, you'll probably need to visit the stealer to pull the code, unless you have an indy with a Tech 2 nearby.
