96-98 are the best mechanically, but don't have as distinctive a Saab look.
Otherwise, it's a free-for-all on opinions and personal bias.
Some say avoid TCS like the plague, others say it's ok-great, some say avoid the automatic trans, but I (and alot of others) have had no problems.
The early manual trans aren't as strong as the later.
Best overall value seems to be the 96-98 CS, usuallyt can be gotten way below book, for $125 can be upgraded to full pressure turbo, usually driven easier the the FPT or Aero.
Check out the link below, he has alot on the model changes, but we're all biased in certain direction on this board, so take everything (including this) with a grain of salt.
