I took the 94cde engine apart and completed putting it back together about half an hour ago. Started it Wednesday morning. This is the car which developed persistent low engine oil pressure more than a month ago.
I took the front paasenger side wheel cover apart Tuesday evening. Found the oil pump cover snap ring loose. My own mistake in installing it wrong a year ago. That was the reason for the low engine oil pressure to begin with. But either my son or me drove the car a little too long with the low pressure. Lack of lubrication seized the balance shaft and then broke the balance shaft chain. The broken chain scoured a hole on the oil suction passage on the timing cover. That is why after I corrected the snap ring engine oil still would not get up.
But the engine and the car runs. Just the lifters were loud.
I used the balance shafts, balance shaft chain from a 94cs engine which I kept, BJ welded the timing cover to complete the installation.
The low oil pressure is of course gone after this. But the exhaust has oil burning smell and smokes. Could someone tell me where does oil go to the combustion chamber?
