I don't know which state you are in, but there is a great locksmith in
Vermont that will do our keys by mail for out-of-staters, or in person
if you are nearby.
He charges under $15 and has the blanks all the time.
I made many inquiries about the key subject, and got much differing
info - some call them 'laser cut', some call them 'sidewinders', and
this locksmith calls them neither, says they aren't laser cut, and he
uses a small, specialized milling machine to copy/cut them.
The dealers in this area charge as much as $37 to get a factory key
from the VIN - which this locksmith cannot do - so when I have bought
a 'new' car he has always been a nearly immediate stop for me.
I was once locked out of a 9K, and always carry a spare key now.
