Hey Aeroman,
I bought a haynes manual which I was not thrilled with but it will get you through it.It will give you step by step procedure.Bite the bullet and realize it is past time for head gasket replacement.Be kind to your car and put it O.O.S. until the job gets done. You don't want coolant mixing with your oil because if that happens you will wash your cylinders with coolant instead of oil and do damage. You have to remove the front pass. tire to gain access to back side of motor to get the stuff back there released and swung away from the head.Intake manifold swung away ,Exhaust manifold removed, turbo loosened a/c swung away, water removed and replaced with new o2 sensor replaced while you're in there. Also serp. belt replaced.timming chain tensioner gets removed to enable you to remove head.sprockets get removed and mark everything to go back in its' original place.Lifters get put in an oil bath.Make sure you mark them and everything.Look at the teeth of the sprockets and if they are not worn {symetrical pyramid shape}your chain ehould be fine.3000 mile changes insure that.Timming chain cover stays on.Also replace the head bolts with new and put on all new hoses. And clean all the inlets where hoses connect.Have the head checked for cracks and resurfaced {decked}for flat.New valve seals also. And clean that mating surfaces of head and block with brake clean until a white t=shirt wipes off clean so the new head gasket seats perfectly when surfaces heat up.I was in the process of re-assembly and was bolting up intake manifold with head back on and my buddy who was helping me came up to his little shop and asked how clean I had gotten the mating surfaces? What I had done one night after cleaning block and whioe head was in the shop I had put a nice clean oil film to discourge rust or condensation on block before I would put a towel on it to leave for the night.Well when I got the head back I just wiped the excess oil off the block and started the re=assembly process.Well ma buddy explained that the surfaces have to be absolutrly clean for the gasket to seat properly. He said you can either continue and take your chances or dis-assemble again and clean it properly and install another new head gasket.I think you can surmise that I opted to go back in and complete the job properly.I did get better at re-assembly the second time around. So,good luck and after this job you won't have to worry about finding another 9000 for quite a while.Don
