Fuel cutout mystery.

A few months ago I replaced a BPC valve with a burned out coil with a new one. Since then occasionally but not always when I quickly accelerate, usually in a lower gear, boost flies into the red and reaches fuel cutout. When I smoothly floor the accelerator going up a long hill the boost stops partly into the red (how far depending upon the fuel) and every thing seems normal. I suppose it could be a sticky BPC valve but I am reluctant to buy another just to test the theory. My son and his Aero are away for 6 weeks training with the Natioal Guard so I can't substitute his valve.
Has anyone had this experience or have any suggestions? The car is a 1998 CSE 5 speed.
