Under the dash, on the right of the console, in front of the passenger's seat, remove the carpet (vertical). You will see the cable lying on the frame (under the radio). It will probably be bent upwards. This is one end. The cable passes through the firewall to the engine compartment.
In the engine compartment, you can access the other end which is articulated around a ball. You can reach it two ways. 1. remove left (driver) wheel and the plastic part inside the fender (inner fender ?) 2. Remove battery, battery support (??).
The other end is attached to a small lever that controls the tranny. In my case, the ball was rusty and caused the problem.
If my memory is good, I removed the whole cable as I tought it was due to be changed. As it was not broken, I only cleaned it. After, I put as much grease as I could on the cable. But I think the grease was too heavy. Put light grease instead as the cable does not move freely when it is cold.
I hope it will help.
