Without a better description, I would guess that the wire connects to the oil pressure switch. The switch is on the back of the engine on the 91 and it uses a 1/4 inch spade for connection. There are actually few connectors on the engine that use that type of terminal. The three I can think of are the alternater field winding exciter that connects to the battery light on the dash, the temperature gauge sensor on the left side of the head, and the oil pressure switch.
Disconnecting the oil pressure switch would not affect the engine operation. If the connection to the alternator was removed the alternator would not charge the battery. If the lead was off the temperature sensor, the gauge on the dash would not work.
