Ever break serp pulley bracket by alternator?

This weekend my serpentine belt went out (lost power steering and battery light went on). Opened the hood and was shocked to see that the belt was in great shape, just not on all of the pulleys. It seems that the metal bracket that an idler pulley was attached to somehow fractured and sheared off, taking the idler pulley with it. This bracket was attached near the alternator. This was not the tensioner pulley.
Any other souls out there had the same experience?
