The Balance shaft sprocket looks better than the timing chain sprocket (and they both look pretty good) so I wasn't planing on replacing......at what point do they usually fail if I do have the soft one? I need to clean it up, but it looks like there is a bueing of the metal color around the rim/teeth as if the teeth were flame hardened. At 50k miles, the sprocket doesn't show any wear, so I am assuming it is one of the hardened ones. Was there a recall for this so I can check serial numbers?
As far as the chain guides, I wasn't planning on replacing them. I just have to put a limit on how much I am going to spend on this car (penny wise pound foolish?)
