something stupid...now check engine light on. Posted by dan [Email] (#2459) [Profile/Gallery] (more from dan) on Fri, 23 Dec 2005 14:37:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I was changing out the rear motor mount on my 1994 9000CSE . After getting everything back (the dogbone mount at the top was a real bear to get back together with the rear of the engine sitting a little higher now,) I started the car and it quickly stalled. I started it again and the car acted like I was "blipping" the throttle. (I wasn't). It ran and idled fine, but when adding a bit of throttle, it would "blip". I quickly went back to the engine bay to see if I'd bumped a vacuum hose lose or something when I realized that I hadn't plugged the little box above the dogbone back in...this is the thing mounted to the left of the removeable firewall section...and the engine ground wire was not connected. I'm usually a lot better at this remembering thing but with as little sleep as I've been getting lately, it was to be expected. Anyway, the car runs better than ever but I dont' know if I'm going into the red on boost. The Check Engine light is staying on but the car runs smoother than ever.. (amazing what a worn mount will do to my attitude about a car!) The car ran fine before the work this morning and has never had the CEL come on other than at startup. I've understood that limp mode is indicated by a blinking CEL, and mine is solid.
Two things: Any chance I messed something up by running the car without those items plugged in...I figure that a ground would simply make some thing not work and that in doing so, the car did not fire correctly giving a bad emissions reading, thereby giving the CEL trigger.
second, if my first assumption is correct, should the CEL turn off on its own, is there a way to reset is on my own, or will I need to fork out the money to have some shop (read: dealer) hook up a tech II to reset it?
ANy help would be appreciated, and merry Christmas all y'all.
Dan
