Using current probe for diagnostics

Just got a 07-600 600A current probe for $99 from aeswave.com, pretty good thing to have- it converts the current passing through the clamp to mV, at 1mV per amp. It works for both AC and DC
You can put the output on your scope to see the cranking current waveform and determine if there are any weak cylinders by seeing the current draw change as each cylinder comes around- I just had my DMM on hand, so I check the peak current while cranking, and it maxed out at 412A.
Also checked the radiator fan motor as it kicked on, and it went to 32A momentarily on startup, then stabilized at 15A.
It'd be easy to check the blower motor current draw too, just by putting a loop of wire in place of the fuse, and you can get an idea if the motor's starting to go, drawing excessive current and putting your fan controller in peril.
There's also a lower range model for better resolution at low currents, but I wanted to be able to check my starter current, so I had to go for the bigger one. For low currents, you can also try looping it multiple times through the clamp to get better resolution, which works well.
Just throught I'd throw out the idea for the tool junkies out there- ;-)
Also got some nice insulation piercing probes, which are very handy when doing installation work, to verify signals on prospective wire taps.
