Hi Alice,

yes, prices vary. a low milage (under 75k) 9K owner could be asking $10K for the car. Remember they ranged up to $38K new list. I personally would not be worried about 100K miles figuring that several maintenance items would/should have already been done. Clutch on a stick/rubber band belt/belt tensioner/ maybe the DI cassette too.

I would work a 100K miles car in excellent condition with all the paperwork and no visible issues at about $6k, more or less :). If the car has had recent major saab work (transmission, clutch, radiator, DI Cassette, A/C work, ful brake job, tune-up, belt tensioner, crank position sensor, no cracks in the headlights & taillights or Windows, the interior seats don't have split seams or wear marks in the leather - esp drivers seat) then you have a good prospect. Did I mention no rust and not from a salt state/area?


I'd say no rust, take it for a drive, do the carfax check (although they don't catch everything either...), get a saab savy mechanic to look at it. do the typical stuff, if the tires are worn unevenly "why?", if the tires aren't a matched set "why?", if no paper trail on maintenance "why?", if the car drives funny "why?", and WHY is the seller selling?

Just some things I look for in a used Saab.
