I keep thinking my mystery noise that I hear related to engine RPM regardless of gear is in the trans. I contacted Ericksson for their feedback and this is the response I got:
This would be a must read for auto trans owners!!
"It sounds like the pump in the transmission. These cars have a
problem with the ground wire (cable) from the trans to the
body. When there is poor connection and the starter is used it
seeks ground from the engine, this creates arc strikes on the
hub of the torque converter, these arc strikes cause roughness
of the surface that wears the pump bushing. the bush wears to
one side due to load from pressure and pushes the inner pump
gear into the crest of the pump. What you hear are the gear
teeth rubbing on the crest of the pump. Rebuilt pump $165,
gasket $19 plus several hours labor ( we do not work on the car!) "
