The only experience I had with an auto transmission is in removing one on my 94cde while doing the conversion. The torque converter is bolted to the flex plate so after the transmission is separate from the engine but still supported, you need to stick a spanner in to loosen and remove three bolts on the torque converter. I think that is the only difference between an auto and 5 speed other than the auto weighs more.
