I'm in a quandry, if you haven't read my prior posts I had my 90 9000S towed into my local saab mech in Western MA to have the slave and hose replaced (with my parts) and he encouraged me NOT to fix it:
1. he said brake lines were rusted/corroded by ABS and in rear of car (brakes are functioning now, but he's concerned about breaking one removing trans, or one leaking in future).
2. he said coolant expansion tank was frozen ?! car started right up and ran fine (after sitting for a couple months without starting) when my dad put a new battery in it the other day (I'm in Florida right now). BUT, because of freezing, saab mech is worried about internal damage that we don't know about. coolant was 50/50 mixture, last checked about a year ago. i'm guessing it degraded and was able to freeze some?? but i would think coolant would still protect from too much expansion. i don't know.
3. he said windshield was leaking (I don't remember that, sunroof leaked during heavy rains in fall and moisture caused headliner to fall where it hangs today).
I'm trying to price brake lines and decide what to do, but living 1500 miles away, I might just say enough is enough, take my roof rack bars, my new battery (to use in another car), and my DI Cassette (as spare for my '93 or sale) and give it up.
The car was very well-maintained, has 210K miles, I put new rotors, pads, and calipers on about 2.5 years ago, they hardly have any use because i've only used the car several times in the last 2.5 years. New exhaust two years ago, but will need front pipe soon as it's getting rusty. Car had thousands in repairs before I bought it four years ago. Has rust in lower doors now, and on passenger rear wheel-well in a spot.
Rose quartz hatchback with maroon cloth interior (my favorite).
I have the parts to fix car (slave and new hoses). I could have it towed away to salvage yard for free or maybe they'd give me $50, maybe I could donate it. I really love the car. I just hate to see it die an early death, if it is indeed fixable, so I'm thinking of giving it away for free to fellow Saaber rather than having it sit for months with insurance payments until I can fix it myself.
I'm going to look at it next week when I'm in MA for the weekend and will probably decide then what to do, if not sooner. I won't have time to part out the car.
If anyone has possible interest in free car (minus a couple aforementioned items), email me directly (see above).
It would need to be towed away from Pittsfield, MA.
If I decide to give away for free, it will go up on the saab free classifieds.
