Ticking that fades away

When I come home from work - after a nice exhilerating drive - sitting in the garage with the car idling before I shut it down, I can hear what I can best describe as a low "humming tick". I think it might just be a valve. But then after about a minute at idle it just fades away. Does that ring a bell with anyone? I just changed the oil recently. Didn't make a difference. Thinking of trying an additive that cleans sticky valves.
