a broken balance shaft chain. Last Sunday, I was driving home and my car (a 93 9000 CS non-turbo auto) all of a sudden seemed like it wasn't running on all cylinders. I posted a message here, and people thought (as did I) that it was a bad DI. So, I got a new DI and new plugs, installed them, and car still ran like it was running on two or three cylinders. So, based on something someone on this forum said, I pulled the valve cover, and looked at the timing chain. That looked ok, it was tight, didn't see any broken links or anything out of the ordinary. Then I looked down into the timing chain cover from the top of the engine, and I saw the balance shaft chain. Something didn't look right, so I took one of those long grabers/pinchers tools, and tried to grab and move the balance shaft chain. Well, it turns out that the chain was totally broken and was not connected to anything.
Would a broken balance chain cause similar symptoms, a violiently shaking engine like it was only running on two or three cylinders?
Looks like I need to repair the balance chain this weekend. I ordered the parts already from eeuroparts.com, with overnight shipping. I am replacing the chain, the crank sprocket, the idler sprocket, the chain guides, the balance shaft tensioner, the timing chain tensioner, and the oil pump gaskets. Anything else I should do while I am in there? (as if that wasnt enought!) And to top it off, I need to get this finished by the 3rd as I am moving 350 miles! :)
Thanks for any help.
