Interesting. I thought about installing an EGT gauge... Posted by TonyJ [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: EGT Gauge Installed on SQR Stage 4 Aero, Steve 97 9K Aero, Mon, 20 Feb 2006 17:31:00 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
in our 97 CSE turbo after my valve disaster (see TonyJ Photo Gallery) that happened while towing my race car. I havn't done that, but here is some info on the race car, which has a 2-stroke snowmobile engine with EGT measurement and data logging on each of the two cylinders. With these engines, anything under 1100 degrees F is too rich and over about 1300 is considered too lean. The ideal range is 1200-1300 and I try to keep mine below 1200. 1400 degrees is heading for disaster-- i.e. melted pistons. Pure aluminum melts at about 1220 degrees, but the alloys used in pistons are probably higher. The EGT probes need to be mounted in the pipes about 8-10 inches downstream from the exhaust port, because if closer with these engines, raw fuel can cool the probes and reduce temps by about 50 degrees. (Mast of this info is from the Aaen carb tuning handbook.)
Perhaps someone with avaition experience can comment on EGT ranges?
