been using for years Posted by Henry Helfman [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: POR-15 anyone ?, vtsnaab ![]() ![]() |
It's an epoxy based paint. Good stuff but do not get it on your skin. Wont hurt you but will take up to a week for it to come off. It bonds better to rusted surfaces than unrusted metal and seals it up well. If you want to seal and protect unrusted surfaces you need to first etch it with their metal ready product (pretty much battery acid)
POR-15 is weak to UV light so it will eventually break down if exposed to prolonged sunlight. If exposed to sun just topcoat it with paint (like my recently por-15'd roofrack with rustoleum topcoat)If you coat floorboards or anything underneath you needn't worry about a topcoat
It's expensive but covers an amazing amount of area. (Still using a quart bought 5 years ago)I used to work a mile from the factory in Morristown NJ so I used to purchase it right there. Dunno about any way to get it cheaper than factory direct. When I replace my shocks/struts I will coat my rear wheel shock mounts inside and out with it as preventative maintanance. Good stuff
