As a follow-up to my confusion, there are actually 3 different Mobil-1 5w-30 oils for me to choose from:

5w-30 SuperSyn (SM rated, 11.3 cst100)
5w-30 EP Extended Performance (SL rated, 10.25 cst100)
5w-30 Truck + SUV (no information yet - other than its on my Walmart shelf)

Compare this to:

0w-30 SuperSyn (SL, 10.3 cst100)
5w-40 T + SUV (SL, 14.8 cst100)
0w-40 SuperSyn (SM, 14.3 cst100)
10w-30 SuperSyn (SM, 10.0 cst100)
10w-30 EP (SL, 10.5 cst100)

With my basic knowledge of oils, this means that 5w-30 SS is actually a bit thicker than the both of the 10w-30s! How strange.

Maybe I'll try the 5w-30 SS as it seems to be the thickest of the 30 weights. But 0w-30 also looks tempting.

One other thing is that most of the EP oils are not SM rated - they seem to be a bit "old tech" compared to the regular SuperSyn formula.

Sorry for my babbling...maybe this will help somebody down the road when they are using the "search" function..hehehe
