The most common way for a CPS to fail is when engine is hot. You shut down, go to restart a few mins later and no go. If you pour cold water on it and it starts then the CPS is suspect. R&R it soon as it will fail again.
Rough running usually indicates something else, plugs, DI etc.
I thought I had a bad CPS one day over a year ago. Cold water didn't help, but an hour or so later car started right up. Been fine since. That has happened once or twice on every fuel injected car I've owned in 25 years. Some gunk in the fuel, phase of the moon, what was playing on the radio, who knows?
