Center vent? Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: broken vent knob solutions, Barry, Wed, 1 Mar 2006 16:43:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Are you talking about the center vent that likes to close by itself? I've got two solutions.
The easiest is a pony tail holder. Or just about any rubber band. Loop one end over one of the tabs that allow you to aim the vent, and wrap the other around the knob.
The other method is to take a piece of electrical tape, and cut it to about 3/4 inch long, maybe 3/16 inch wide. Look into the vent - you'll see some gears that turn when you turn the knob. Hold one end of the tape with a needle nose pliers, and feed the other end into the gears as you turn the knob. This adds just enough extra resistance that the knob won't turn by itself.
This fix works for about a year or two, depending on how hot it gets in the summer and how often you use the knob. But replacing it is no big deal.
