With proper maintenance of the car, the timing chain should last well over 200K. I would NOT change a timing chain just based on the fact that the car has 130K. Budgeting for it when you buy a car is reasonable, but I wouldn't plan on doing it. To answer your question, I would expect $1000-$1200 to change all the bits that need changing.

However, if the oil level has been maintained and changed regularly, I wouldn't sweat the chain. If you're really worried, you can always pull the valve cover and inspect the chain. That's about an hour of work and $25 for the gasket. No biggie. If the oil hasn't been changed regularly, the engine has other problems.

As to the automatic, swapping out an autobox is about $3K. That would be assuming a catastrophic tranny failure. It's good to plan on it happening in the 120K time frame, but that's a long way from assuming it will.

The big question is how is it shifting now? Does it shift smoothly, or does it BANG on shifts? The car has decent power, so under full load you will feel shifting. Describing a hard shift from a 'firm but normal' shift is difficult, but when the tranny bangs, you know it.

My tranny test is simple. Start off from a stop, and count shifts. Make sure it starts up in first, by counting three shifts (1-2, 2-3, 3-4) by about 50 mph or so.
Next, find yourself a nice long hill. Accelerate up the hill smoothly, and let the tranny shift into 4th (about 45-50 mph) by keeping a light foot. Now, hit the throttle. The tranny should downshift. It should be a pretty firm shift. There should be no pause between gears, where you'd hear the engine over-rev. It's normal for the engine to increase revs - it needs to speed up to match speeds in 3rd. But you don't want to feel a pause between gears, or to feel the tranny 'slip' as it shifts to 3rd.
