Hi Barry,
When this question became important to me I asked as many people as
I could about the Silverstars, and priced them both on and off sale
and decided they were too risky for the price when others of equal
or better claimed quality cost the same or less and have warrantees.

I have a '91 with the rather insipid 9004 lamps, and they were doubly
disappointing to me after driving an Aero....but I did find some
better - and here's what I did:

A few months ago I searched for better headlight lamps - and tried
(as an experiment) some that I got from Eurodezigns on Ebay, very
inexpensively - that claim to be HID lookalikes and blue tinted.

They were a big improvement on the stock lamps on low beam, rather
useless as high beams, and had no ill effects on wiring, etc.

One did burn out after only a couple of months - big downside.
(They have a warrantee - but the shipping costs what the bulbs do !)

When I contacted the company I reached a nasty woman who repeated the
'rules' of their warranty and was done with me, period.
The vendor I bought them from was much nicer, but while waiting for
his reply I dug around for better solutions....and I'm happy to say
I found a really good one: Hella Optilux Extremes in the standard
wattage - and they are QUITE an improvement !

In case anyone else is stuck with 9004 headlights and wants better,
I found them at Susquehanna Motorsports (http://www.rallylights.com) for a
mere $24/pair, and supposedly they come with a real lifetime waranty
in the standard wattage - the guy said all I have to do is call in
and request a replacement set, and the only downside is that Hella
usually takes a month to deliver, so I'd have to use an old lamp
until delivery.

The part number I got was HL88910s, and they also sell these lamps
in other sizes according to their online catalog.
