is the check valve - if the hose pops off you lose all the water pretty fast, whereas yours took longer. You might be able to check for this by just loosening some of the fibre-board undertray, and getting an accomplice to fill the reservoir and squirt the thingy while you watch, but actually fixing it without killing your hands will be much easier if you take off the inner wheel arch, though just pushing a hose back on can be done via the under-tray in an emergency.
If the problem is a hose, if it's come off once it'll do it again - the hose has probably softened and got all greasy anyway. A cable tie might do the trick but long-term you'll need to replace the hose (and the check valve while you're in there).
The hose is very cheap and easy to find if you don't mind clear neoprene rather than black.
A few people have posted about a cracked reservoir but I don't think it happens very often from what I've read here. People have mended them with two-part epoxy or lots of silicone caulk.
In the past I've had to get check valves from a dealer but have recently seen (though not tried) valves in car acessory shops over here. The ones on my '97 car look a bit different from those on the '93 - don't know if that's important.
