Hey all,
I've got a 5-speed '97 9000 Aero with 72k miles. Some of the gears are a little "worn out," especially 3rd, and to a lesser degree 2nd and 4th. By this I mean it is a little difficult to shift into 3rd, it feels like the notch for the shifter is worn in, and I sometimes have to coax it into gear. Also, once in 3rd gear, if I have let off the throttle and then accelerate again, the shifter "pops"--not all the way out of gear, but enough that it worries me. (there is a little bit of movement like this in 2nd and 4th) I know very little about the mechanics of transmissions (although I am trying to pick up some stuff)--
Could anyone tell me what is going on, and what kind of work would be required to fix it? Is this a serious problem? I was thinking of doing some simple ugrades in the next few months (possibly a stage 2 ecu) and I wanted to make sure the rest of the car was up to speed. I recently had a lot of work done on the car, and everything else seems to be running fine. Thanks!
