auto tranny diagnostics

So I think my tranny is having some issues. There are not many mechanics in my area willing to look at a saab, so i'm looking for some info to help things along. Here is what I noticed...
-initally i noticed a delayed reaction to moving forward when stepping on the gas
-within a minute it felt like the car was stalling out...almost jerkey and noticeable engine noice jerkyness too.
-pulled over, placed in N and reved the engine.... didn't seem to have any issues so I don't think engine issue
- R seems to work fine
- after about 5 min of sitting with car running I was able to drive home. IT was city driving and seemed ok until about 55-60 km/h where it didn't want to change gears.. but i didn't push my luck, slowed down to make it home.
- 10 km later just as I was pulling into my parking spot same stalling feeling happened again.
Soooooo. Should I be expecting a replacement or are there other less expensive options. I have found a used tranny for a 1992 (mine is a 1993 9000 cs) for 1100 cdn with 220k km on it (mine has 320k). If it is the worst possible outcome, how many hours can i expect for a mecahnic to want to charge?
thanks.
