In general its best to leave your car in reverse as it is the lowest gear. On the level in a garage it probably does not matter. On a hill its best to set the handbrake before you put it in gear to take any strain off the drive train. I am in the habit of not setting the hand brake when parking on the level because in my youth, before global warming, hand brakes would often lock up overnight when it was below freezing. I have never had this happen with a Saab but habits are hard to break.
Congratulations on having the last of the breed. Mine has been more trouble free than my 94 CSE. Just when they got most of the bugs out they dropped the model.
