on this subject, including a useful link to a previous thread. So there are obviously many opinions - and here's mine, which I believe bats straight down the middle.

Suggest you start by taking out the plugs and seeing what you think of them. I'm sure you know what you're looking for but NGK's website has excellent images of different plug conditions and what they mean, both at the extremes of malfunction and across the spread of acceptable "normal" appearance.

Next step is to junk those plugs and buy a new set of four NGK BCPR7ES. Gap them to 0.9mm. Torque in carefully and refit shiny new DI with some dielectric grease on the boots. Then at your next service, or after 10,000 miles at most, repeat the application. I think the age of the plugs is usually much more important than the mileage of the car.

I have tried NGK Platinum plugs and they were OK but there are a few things to consider. One, by all means expect them to last a long time, but don't expect extra power. Two, some tuners have reported that these plugs can foul and are harder to clear than the standard plug. Three, platinums with the "6" heat range seem to work better in 9000s. Four, the standard BCPR7ES plugs were used by Saab as the benchmark when designing the Trionic system. Five, the standard plugs are cheap, so you can change them frequently!

Finally, someone just mentioned the Italian tuneup - blow out all the cobwebs if your normal driving pattern doesn't include this.
