what happened?
chain noise seems a little quieter now, i'll have to obsess over that later ;)
now i hear the valve tap more clearly i think.
interesting about flex plate chatter.
i was told once that turning the crank backwards would adjust the timing chain tensioner, was wondering if it could work in reverse somehow...
anyway, i hear you, realistically i couldn't get a saab with a new tranny, new brakes, cooling system, di, etc.... for anything less than a new saab, and i think i'm up to about $7000 so far spent in almost two year including car...
my last non saab was a 3 year old legacy wagon i bought for $6500 and drove for 3 years and put about $4000 into (all engine seals went, alternator, sensors, tires I think, brake pads/rotors), and this 9000 is still nicer than the subaru overall..
so, yes, but the thought of not having to pay with labor/money to fix car is so attractive sometimes...
a couple months ago we looked at a 2003 vw jetta wagon with 23K for about $12K with the vw certified warranty, which took it 3 more years and/or up to 80K miles. numbers might be off a little, but it was considerably a good warranty for a peppy little German car (1.8 L Turbo). I figure I could have driven it a few years and sold it for about $7000 if well-maintained and it would still be low mileage for a used car (under 100K), those numbers work well... (until you factor in insurance and tax and registration).
good luck with BMW
