my personal experience, and your mileage may vary, started running two stroke dirt bikes in the high desert of southern california. two strokes mix oil with gasoline (and it was leaded hi octane then) in a ratio. the ratio was/is very critical. too much oil and it runs hot, doesn't burn well, and fouls the plug (only one on a dirtbike!) and you either break down or have to change the plug. too little oil and you, run hot, score the cylinder, and worst case seize. sometimes after it cools down you can "unseize" the piston and restart to crawl back in. for those that don't follow desert races, you can be anywhere from 1 mile to 50 miles from your camp/pit area. distance as the crow flies is often difficult if not impossible to do. so you either finish the loop, forwards or backwards.
after setting the environment for you, when synthetic oil came out for the 2 strokes, and I tried it after getting a recommendation from a fellow racer... All of the above problems went away... Why? With an air tempature of 100 F *or higher* all day, on an *air cooled* motocycle (with 10% rh), we could change from a former 32 or 40 to one dino ratio of gas to oil, to 50:1 gas to oil, with SAFETY. No oil fouled plugs because of too much oil, and no seized pistons because of too little oil. wear on the cylinder wall minimal, reliability 100%, no more walking back to the pits. and the inside of the cylinder was clean too...
all because the oil kept it's viscosity across a wider range of temps than the dino oil could. in fact, the only reason to change the ratio at any time during the year was... none. winter, summer, sealevel, 2,000 ft in the high desert, no differences.
So I started using mobil-1 in my cars. and, with over a million miles since I've *never* had to replace an internal engine component. no bearings, cranks, pistons, rings, rods.... nothing. Period.
Three head gaskets due to overheating (2 thermo stats and one split hose that the wife didn't want to miss the train...) a couple of auto boxes, a bunch of clutches, 3 water pumps, steering rack, rotors and pads a bunch... see where I'm heading? New cars I traded away went 105K, 190K and new cars I still have are currently at 350K and 262K, and purchased used have a combined over 100K since purchase currently at 190k, 142k, 75k and 98k.
Until someone proves to me that this is a poor experience I'm going with the slightly modified saying "if it doesn't break, don't fix it...".

you can look at my members photo gallery, the 92 9000CDT auto in there is *out* of the barn. 262k miles on it, cracked 100mph on it yesterday...
