I just had new struts installed on my '97 Aero/auto today. After a lot of research and reviewing the thoughts and opinions on Saab BB's I selected the SACHS struts. The number is # 14 1500 115 253.
These are the OEM replacement struts for the Aero. The number on the struts that I replaced was
# 14 1500 115 557.
I also replaced the rear control arm bushings with Abbotts.
The feel is very firm and stable. Firmer than the stock strut I replaced after 80k due to one of the struts failing. I will report back after a few hundred miles. I will say this about these struts...and something I am concerned about. The strut rod is 3mm smaller in diameter than the OEM unit.
My opinion on the 9000 suspension is....it could probably benefit from stiffer springs...maybe 20% stiffer, and softer struts. One of these days I am going to do this. I have always felt that the struts were doing more work than they should and the car is under sprung.
