Saab seem to have been pretty logical in the US, with something approaching a strategy!
Here in Europe we got lots of other stuff as well. There was the normally-aspirated 2-litre with 130 bhp in catalysed form. I drove one (1990 9000S automatic) for 5 years and though I'd never give up my turbo now, that was a very pleasant car indeed. Wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, of coure, and I doubt if you got it in the US.
We also got an lpt 2-litre with 150 bhp, and a high proportion of the turbo cars that pop up on Eb*y over here seem to be that spec..
Then there were Carlssons (I think they were called the Talledega elsewhere?) with something like 205 bhp - some later cars said to have 220 bhp. This seems to be a particularly murky area, even leaving aside the oh-so-eighties body kits on earlier cars.
Finally (or perhaps not) there was a post a few years aback about 2-litre Aeros sold in Italy, where the tax regime hammers cars over 2 litres. Apparently they had 185 bhp. Couldn't tell you the engine designation for any of the above, however.
