Hi Tom,
The Starla/Walker stuff is just fine IMO. It's gonna rust one day, same as the Genuine Saab stuff. If you are serious about keeping the car long-term, look into stainless steel systems... yes they are pricey, but you will never replace the exhaust again.
My rear muffler rusted off recently. I think the car sounds spectacular without it, so I have had no motivation to replace it while I save up for a full 3" stainless steel system. So essentially, I'm running with just a center resonator. I may have a pipe welded on just to get the exhaust exiting at the right place to tide me over.
I suspect the center resonator does more work than the rear exhaust at keeping things quiet, since it really isn't offensive at all with just the center.
OTOH, many remove the center and run with just the rear. If you can tolerate some extra noise, just put a straight pipe between the cat and rear muffler - that way it all looks nice, and you've saved some money.
I think it sounds great. Nothing like the Japanese fart cans you hear everywhere - it's a lovely deep euro-burble, wihch is what all those fart-cans WISH they could sound like!
