9000 V6 Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Are there any major issues with the 95 V-6? Do they hav, J Barsanti, Mon, 27 Mar 2006 07:12:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The V6 used in the 9000 isn't very popular around here. Part of it is that it isn't a Saab design. The advantages are that it is smooth and powerful, although heavier than the turbo 4.
The V6 is in some ways harder to work on than the turbo 4. A major issue with the V6 is that it has a timing belt, unlike the timing chain on the 4 cylinder. The V6 is an interference engine, so if the belt breaks, it's buy new engine time. There were issues with the change interval with the timing belt, and some folks found out the hard way that waiting for the recommended service interval could be fatal (to the engine).

Not a lot of V6 9000's out there to begin with, and a lot less now.
Don't confuse this with the V6 in the 9-5 - different animal. The 9-5 V6 is a pretty decent engine (but still requires timing belt changes).
