So, I think I'm getting closer to discovery of source of noise...
I noticed this morning when the car was cold, that when first started and left in Park:
1. I don't really notice the noise
2. Noise doesn't show up if I turn steering wheel left or right (just slight groan from pump)
3. Noise doesn't show up if I raise or lower RPM
4. Noise shows up immediately when I put it into Reverse
But, transmission is brand new, and symptoms were the same with old tranny, so I'm assuming tranny is OK.
Then I drove car, put car into Park and noise remained.
Then I parked car, OFF, and let it sit for 35 minutes, started car, and noise was still there (unlike the morning cold start) immediately.
Then I drove home, put in Park, and turned on AC compressor, no change in noise. Then I turned steering wheel to the left and RPMs dropped, and noise increased markedly in volume and intensity. I raised RPMs to overcome load, and turned wheel left again and noise increased in volume and intensity. I turned steering wheel right, and noise increased only slightly.
It seems that turning steering wheel left produces more load on engine than turning right, and even if low RPM is overcome with increased pedal, turning left still increases the noise/vibration noticeably, so I can't tell if it's load induced, or something else...
But AC compressor, which is also a load, does not seem to increase noise.
So, I have a noise that isn't really noticeable in Park when car is started COLD (more than hour cool down) and allowed to idle/warm up. Shows up immediately when I put it into gear. Stays there even after 30 minute cool down and restart in Park, and gets worse when I turn steering wheel left while in Park.
Can anyone's brain process all that and come up with ideas?
Thanks,
Aaron
