6mm and 8mm walbro pumps seem interchangable?

I just removed the original fuel pump insert on my 94 and it was a 6mm walbro 3 barb type. The plactic molding on top of the 6 mm walbro replacement unit has been modified (just a little different around the electtrical tabs) with the result that getting the original rubber bellows back on seem next to impossible. I have a 8mm walbro insert on hand as well and the bellows slip on to that with no problem at all. The main difference (apart from the brass fuel coupling being 8mms) is that the electrical tabs would sit 3/4 inches lower. The other difference is that the 8mm brass fitting seems to have a valve inside whereas the 6mm does not. Diameter, length of the pump etc are identical.
Anyone know if it would make a difference if I used the 8mm unit. Id have to find a way to attach the the 8mm outlet to the 6mm tubing but that seems easier than dealing with getting the bellows on to the 6mm insert.
