Two ideas come to mind-
First, one of the front wheel sensor wires is frayed, worn, or otherwise damaged. When you turn the wheels, the wires have to move. When turning, the wire is moved somewhat, and either becomes an open circuit, or just changes impedance (like resistance) enough for the self-test to catch it. Inspect the cables carefully, and if you see one that doesn't look good, you need to replace the sensor.
Second, the ABS thinks two wheels are going at different speeds. When you turn, wheels do turn at different speeds - slightly different, but different. The ABS knows the brakes aren't on, so it signals a sensor fault. Yes, the ABS is designed to take turning into account, so there is a built in tolerance. Something in the system is causing it to move to the limit of the tolerance, and the extra speed difference while turning is just enough to trip the system.
To test #2, try making the left turn with the brakes on slightly all the way through the turn. If the light stays off, or if you feel the ABS trying to kick in, that would be a sign this is the problem.
So why would it be? The sensor measures speed by looking at a toothed wheel on the hub - like a gear. If those wheels fill up with anything metallic (like normal grease and worn bits of rotors and semi-metallic brake pads), then the gaps disappear from the sensor's view. If one or two gaps fill up enough, the system will think that wheel is going slower (it counts gaps over time - fewer gaps, slower). Since the inside wheels are the ones going slower when turning, I'd inspect the toothed gears on all wheels, but concentrate on the left side.
