The Haynes manual for the 9000 is British. The UK uses a letter designation for model year registrations - C corresponds to 1985, and S is 1998. So the C-S means the manual is for model years 1985 to 1998.

It's a decent manual, and the only paper manual you'll find other than Saab factory manuals. It's worth getting, as it will cover most of the simple stuff, like brakes and the like. Just don't get confused by the steering wheel on the right and terms like 'bonnet, boot, and spanner.'

There are factory Saab manuals running around. Saab did manuals in a (not so) funny way. Instead of one big manual, there are separate manuals for different car systems, for different years. The factory manual set is huge - don't try and assemble a set. It was designed for a Saab dealership, not an individual.

Unless you plan on doing major engine overhauls, you should be fine with the Haynes, and a few on-line resources. If you can find the Electrical Supplement (manual) for '98, that would be fine. And the '98 is basically the exact same car as the '97 (and not much different than the '96).

There is a CD set that floats around eBay by a company called Mitchell. I don't think it's worth it, but it does have a workable set of electrical schematics. A website in Russia has downloaded .pdfs of all the schematics for the '97 (which is the same as yours). Now, I don't condone such rampant copyright violations - you should see this blatant lawlessness yourself at:

Good luck!
