i would start with the trunk light test too, it is quick and simple and there's a good chance it'll fix it.
does your car have an underhood light? (mine doesn't). that's another possible culprit. don't know when it turns off by itself, but you could always take the bulb out and see if the battery still goes empty.
if not, however, you'll need to check for draw while the car is off. get a test light (incandescent) and unhook the battery negative cable. put the test light between the cable and battery and see if it comes on. if so, you have a problem. (it should come on very dimly, due to the clock and stereo, but it will be a minimal amount)
then start pulling fuses until the light goes out. when it goes out, you know what system to explore in greater detail.
