Throw in a few qts of your favorite oil in case you have a problem. Like the others said be sure all systems are strong before you go.

A new DI is a great idea, and a spare is always a good idea, if for no other reason than to rule out a dead DI when the car won't start. I'd put the new one in right away so you can get the max out of the warranty. You can always sell the used one when you sell the car.

I got stuck in Neb for three days with a dead alt. That's how long it took me to limp across the state recharging the battery. Finally bought a new one that took me the rest of the way to Denver. A rebuilt in Neb was $800, in Denver $75. A new VR on my 9000 is $75 or so, and can be installed in 30min or less. Nice to have the option in a package smaller than a cell phone.

I think the most important thing is to have new plugs, filters, and fluids, and a thorough check out to make sure everything is in good order before you leave. 7000 miles is a pleasure in these cars, and likely no big deal. Do spend some time in WY and other great spots along the way. Enjoy!
