The Continuum Strikes.... (long) Posted by Chadwick [Email] (#569) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Chadwick) on Tue, 2 May 2006 19:36:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey everyone,
I'm new here, sold my c900, moved up to a 94 9000 aero, 198k, 5 speed, no TCS.
A folder full of reciepts came with the car... new Serp belt, tensioner, NEW turbo, usual system flushes, rear main seal, new clutch, both cv shafts adn inner drivers replaced, new bushings all around, headgasket in the past year... etc...
After about 3 weeks of ownership, the alternator crapped out... oh well. Just got the replacement today, and as I was checking things out under the hood, I noticed that the color of the coolant tank was awful, took a look inside and sure enough I found oil floating in there. Also some slight oil seeping from the passenger side front of the cylinder head, right behind the water pump. Oil level is fine, no different than usual, but somewhere, there's a leak.... and I'm guessing it's headgasket related.
A 160 dollar repair turned big $$$$$ repair, seems like the way things always work out for me.
My question is about my course of action... first off, I'm going to go ahead and replace that damn alternator. Then, flush the coolant, run a compression test to see if anything shows up in the numbers, then pop off the valve cover, and check the torque of the head bolts to make sure that they have freed a bit since the HG was done last year. A gasket failing within 15-20k of replacement on a stock engine doesn't seem right, but if i've learned anything from my saabs, it's that anything is possible. If any more oil comes up in the coolant, I'll know the verdict for sure.
Sound like a good plan? Any suggestions... other than Bar's leaks... because I'm just not a fan.
Thanks in advance.
