On that model there are number of common opportunities for oil leaks. In no specific order they are: oil level sensor, oil level sensor O-ring, dipstick tube, dipstick tube O-ring, oil pressure sensor (drives the idiot light), oil pump O-ring, crankshaft seal-oil pump side, crankshaft seal-flywheel side, oil filter, and oil drain plug washer. And that is just the bottom of the engine. On top you have the valve cover gasket, tensioner O-ring, distributer O-ring, oil cooler lines, turbo oil feed line, turbo line to the sump, among others.
If you want to fix the problem, the plan of attack should be to completely clean the engine, drive it for a short while, and then get under the car, or put it up on a lift. Virtually all of the problems listed can be solved with low cost seals, O-rings or gaskets. You just have to go after it methodically.
Of course, it is an 18 year old car, and even Mobil 1 is only $6 a quart, so you have to decide.
