This is not a 1-2 hour job, unfortunately.
I would assume that an independent shop would charge on the order of $500. The blower isn't cheap, and the task takes a few hours. If you have an older car (say 91 and older), it's a harder task because of the intake manifold.
Depending on the age of the car, you should also consider replacing the heater core while you're in there. They leak with age. And if you've got the blower motor out, the extra labor for the heater core is minimal.
I've seen this cost about $900 from a dealer, heater core and blower motor (model year '88). An indy will be cheaper, but still probably run $600 for the pair.
