The 1990 2.0L turbo with the DI/APC had 165 HP versus the 1989 turbo's 160 HP. If you are just looking for more power, you should upgrade your APC box, either from one of the BB vendors or using a soldering iron yourself. I have a 1990 2.0L and I could probably get the number off the box if you wanted it. Besides the box, there are a number of other components you will need, none of which are cheap. Specifically, you will need the wiring harness, a crank position sensor, the aperature wheel that goes on the harmonic balancer, the MAP sensor (atmospheric pressure sensor), and some other things I am sure I haven't thought of.
If you had a donor car, it would be easy (well, maybe not as difficult), but without one, it will be an endless treasure hunt.
