I would replace the ECU only after I had ruled out all other causes. The ECU doesn't fail that often, and is an expensive part.
It sounds like you're running way too rich. I would first pull the spark plugs to see if you're running rich in all cylinders, or just one or two. If it's in all cylinders, I'd suspect a very bad fuel pressure regulator. If it's just a few, it may be sticky injectors. If the FPR checks out OK, then all the injectors could be sticky.
Next would be a seriously shot AMM. It is possible for it to be the ECU, but I'd go there last.
