I'm not familiar with the '86 T, but I know that a lot of those pipes have indentations on them near the bend. I think it's a result of the manufacturing process used to shape it. It might also be there to induce certain flow patterns into the throttle body. Compressible fluid dynamics are not always intuitive!
I'd try to find a picture of someone else's before you send it back. Here's a picture of the NG900 T engine bay. There's a dent in the intake pipe right of the top of the (red) DI casette.
